Flow Measurement

Generally used to determine the structures intersecting the borehole where groundwater flows. The intensity of the flow can also be estimated. The result can be used to create a hydrological model of the bedrock of the study site or, for example, in mining design.

Method

The method detects water-conducting gaps and structures in a borehole. In addition, the method can be used to interpret, for example, hydraulic connections between two boreholes that are close to each other.

The studies use a rotor-type/spinner-type probe (Flowmeter), which is lowered and raised in the borehole at different speeds. If necessary, the borehole flows are amplified by pumping the water level down into the borehole.

Flow measurement provides effective information when it is utilized in conjunction with, for example, optical or acoustic borehole imaging. The joint analysis of the methods enables the efficient determination of the hydrological flow properties of the borehole.

Equipment and Data

The equipment used is ALT's QL40SFM bi-directional spinner flowmeter. Geovisor has excellent connections to equipment rental companies and an extensive cooperation network. Our personnel have diverse experience with various borehole measurement equipment.

The customer always receives quality-assured raw data from the measurements. In addition, we process, analyze, and report data in accordance with the agreement.

Reporting at the selected level and familiarizing the client with the research results are done as agreed.
