Water management is extremely important, especially in the vicinity of mining environments. In mining operations, knowledge of the movement of groundwater enables careful planning of underground operations. Water management is also of paramount importance in rock construction, especially in tunnel conditions.
During the measurement, the volume to be examined is isolated in the borehole with two packers and pressure is applied to the space to be examined. By measuring how much water moves from the rock into the isolated volume, observations can be made about the rock's fracturing and hydraulic conductivity.
Packer and water flow tests are most often performed with the aid of a drill rig, utilizing drill pipes to lower and raise the packers.
The measurement is carried out using the IPI SwiPS (Standard Wireline Packer System) equipment, which guarantees fast and accurate results
Flow measurement can be used to determine the integrity of the rock. At the same time, information is obtained about fracture zones and their size. The measurement results can be calculated as Lugeo values.
Packer measurement is used especially when determining the conductivity of water (k-value). The information can be used, for example, as part of flow modeling. The results also enable the installation of geohydrological measuring devices, pressure tests, water sampling and pumping tests.
