TEM Method

The method (Transient ElectroMagnetic - TEM) is typically used to locate massive and electrically conductive metal ore deposits. The method is based on the contrast in the conductivities of the electrically conductive metallic ore and the resistive host rock. Typical geological structures where the Surface TEM method is used are: deep deposits, intrusions, massive electrically conductive ores.

Method

The surface TEM method is effective in locating deep conductive deposits. The TEM method is effective, for example, in guiding ore drilling. The measurement can improve the ability to find and penetrate the ore with drilling.

A separate transmitter and receiver are required for the measurements. The transmitter loop is placed on the ground surface. The receiving 3-component magnetometer is moved on the ground surface or in the borehole (see Borehole TEM). Two different measurement configurations can be used, a stationary transmitter loop and a transmitter loop that can be moved according to the measurement. The size of the loop varies depending on the depth of the target. To improve the detection capability, a superconducting magnetometer (SQUID) can be used as the receiver.

Equipment

We mainly use the industry standard EMIT SMARTem24 software/receiver and the EMIT SMART Fluxgate 3-component magnetometer. The EMIT receiver can be used with multiple sensors simultaneously to obtain the most comprehensive results possible with a single measurement.

As alternative or additional sensors, for example, Geonics 3D3 coils, Supracon LTS or HTS Sduids, etc.

Our staff has almost a decade of experience operating Squids. As transmitter equipment, we mainly use transmitters from the ZaVeT manufacturer, from the small and compact GTE-45 model to the high-power GTE-4M model.

Ask us about alternative equipment if your project requires it. Geovisor has excellent connections to equipment rental companies and an extensive cooperation network. Our staff has diverse experience with various geophysical equipment.

Data

Customers always receive quality-assured raw data from the surveys. We also process and analyze the data. Selected-level reporting and customer familiarization with the survey results are carried out as agreed.

The final product of a TEM survey is usually a 3D model of the deposit.
